ABOUT ME
Hi, I'm Jonas Parkstam. I photograph landscapes in my spare time from my base in Narvik.
I’m not originally from Northern Norway. I chose to move here because I wanted to live among mountains and experience stable snowy winters. After living here for almost two decades, with winters that sometimes can last for 6 months, I really have come to love the short summers with the midnight sun instead.
But my fascination for mountains and the raw beauty of the landscapes up here is still the same.
I always take my camera with me on hikes, and my passion for photography inspires me to get out a lot more than I would have otherwise.
PHILOSOPHY
I capture most of my images handheld, rarely putting my camera on a tripod and most of the shots are actually not that well planned either.
Instead I like to explore scenic locations, mainly on foot, taking photos of whatever catches my eye.
While I'm not sure if I have a specific editing style, I always aim to recreate the feeling I had when I took the shot, focusing on the elements in the image that inspired me to take it.
GEAR
I mainly use a Micro 4/3 camera with three lenses, which offers a focal length range equivalent to 16 to 400 mm on a full-frame system. Using this system greatly minimizes the weight and size of my camera equipment while still maintaining great image quality. Downsizing the camera equipment also allows me to use a smaller backpack and a lighter tripod. The total reduction in weight is incredibly beneficial when hiking in the mountains. I recently added a small drone to my kit and it really opens up new possibilities for catching the image that I´m after.
